The Hydrovolts turbines utilize technology created by CyberData for the control and instrumentation of their micro-hydro-turbines. The turbines themselves are installed into irrigation canals, or waste water treatement plants to generate electricty from water already moving as part of another process. CyberData created the instrumentation used in the lab to develop the turbines, and the instrumentation used on the turbines in the field. Turbines in the field report telemetry back to a central server where the performance of each turbine can be monitored remotely. A video of the turbine running is available here: Watch Video

CityTour Application
The CityTour application is a map-centric, tablet based application designed to act as an automated tour guide. The application was originally developed to showcase Intel's cloud based maps and storage APIs and was showcased during Intel's 2012 AppUp Developer Conference Keynote speach. The application is written in Qt and QML and is therefore portable across Windows, Linux and Mac.
LocoMaps
LocoMaps is a simple Qt geo application that was created to demonstrate Qt's cross-platform capabilities at LinuxFest NW 2012. The application is built using a single code base and the compiled to run natively on Mac OS X, Linux, MeeGo, Windows and Symbian. The application contains NO platform specific code, and development was also carried out in a cross-platform development environment using Mac OS X, Linux and Windows. The application was developed jointly with Craig Miller of Spatial Minds and is available under the GPL v3 license at: https://github.com/craig-miller/locomaps
QualScan
The QualScan is a machine vision based fiber anlyzer designed for use in plants producing MDF fiber board. The system allows the plant to quickly and accurately monitor the processes used to create the MDF fiber and make adjustments to the process to minimize energy consumption. The is able to measure 100,000 fibers in approximately 4 minutes in a fully automated manner. The nearest competitor can only process 2000-3000 fibers in approximately 10 minutes. The system is also frequently integrated with existing plant automation, further reducing the operator workload.
Coffee and Grain Sorting
CyberData created several iterations of both software and hardware for Xeltron SA in Costa Rica. The primary application of these machines is to sort coffee by color. Raw coffee beans are fed into the top of the machine and then fall through an optical analizer. As the bean falls through the color of the bean is captured and compared to a preset profile. If the bean is acceptable, it is allowed to simply fall through. Beans that are not acceptable are targeted with a jet of compressed air and knocked into a reject bin. A video of this process can be viewed here: Watch Video
SX6000 Single Fiber Analyzer
The SX6000 Analyzer performs semi-automated measurements of KAPPA and charge on individual pulp fibers using a fluorescent analytical dye. The dye is absorbed into the fiber and reacts chemically with the fiber. Based on the chemistry of the fiber, it will now flouresce in different colors. A machine vision system then views the fibers under high magnification and analizes the color spectrum emitted to determine the chemical properities of the fiber. Once started all analysis functions are under automated control freeing lab staff to perform other functions during the test.
